Season For God

Christian Pondering, Prayers, and Poems

I lay my life at my Savior’s feet. With a heart for God, I pray. With a humble mind, I speak.

Host

Contrast is enticing
with the face of kindness
stirring something else up
that feels exciting
as long as it stays
in hiding.

But the night has eyes
born in the shadows
waiting for us to come
a little closer over time.

All the while, it grows roots
in our curiosity and pain
until the mask dissolves
in the amassing abyss.

This is when we see
at last, the fiendish teeth
smiling in the freedom
of finding a home.

Some creatures living in us
are shaped in response
to experience,
and some in the ravages
of invasion.

Some push their way
into residential resonance
when we aren’t looking,
or when we look too close,
and before you know it,
you’re a host.

Be careful of what
you lean into before
you turn into that
which you see.
For the eyes are the veil
or the door to becoming
whatever we perceive.

God, please save us
from ourselves.
